How to Clean Your Pickleball Paddle

Pickleball paddles naturally accumulate dirt over time. While there’s no need to clean them after every use, occasional maintenance will keep your paddle looking and performing its best. Fortunately, cleaning your paddle is simple, quick, and requires just a few basic materials.

Step 1: Wipe Away Dirt and Grime

Start by wiping your paddle with a damp cloth to remove visible dirt and debris. For stubborn stains, add a small amount of mild dish soap, such as Dawn or Method, to the cloth. These soaps are gentle and safe for paddle surfaces. You can find affordable abrasive and lint-free towels at auto stores, grocery stores, or online retailers like Amazon.

Step 2: Dry Your Paddle Properly

After cleaning, use a microfiber towel to dry the paddle thoroughly. Be cautious about the type of towel you use—avoid materials that shed lint or cause pilling, as these can damage the paddle’s surface. Air drying is not recommended, as lingering moisture may lead to mold growth, especially in crevices.

Step 3: Avoid Water Damage

When cleaning your paddle, avoid soaking it or immersing it in water. Excess moisture can damage the materials over time. Stick to using minimal water and soap to prevent potential issues.

Step 4: Consider a Paddle Bag

To protect your paddle further, consider investing in a paddle bag. These bags shield your paddle from dirt, damage, and environmental elements like moisture and sunlight during transit.

How to Clean your Fiberglass Surface Paddles

If you have a paddle with a fiberglass surface, (all Tangerine Pickleball paddles are fiberglass-based), cleaning is as easy as 1-2-3. Stay away from carbon erasers and instead us a damp microfiber cloth or an antibacterial wipe if you need to clean on the go. A carbon eraser can damage the face of any paddle that is not carbon-based.

Don’t Forget the Grip

The grip of your paddle can accumulate sweat, dirt, and oils over time. You can clean it with a damp cloth and mild soap, but grips are also replaceable. If your grip becomes overly worn or dirty, replacing it is an affordable and simple way to restore comfort and functionality.

Proper Storage Is Key

Proper storage is just as important as cleaning. Keep your paddle clean, dry, and protected when not in use. A little maintenance goes a long way in preserving the quality of your gear. By following these simple steps, you’ll ensure your pickleball paddle stays in top condition, ready to perform on the court whenever you are!
